This Easter I wanted to set up an Easter Egg Hunt that worked for both of my children (my daughter is 2 and my son is 7). I bought fillable gold eggs and decided to put something in there that was interesting for both of them. They are quite different ages but I was determined to come up with an idea! For my daughter, I decided to find as many small animal figurines from the ones we already owned, that would fit into the eggs and to my surprise there were quite a few.
For my son, his current interests include Rainforests, so I asked Chat GPT to come up with a list of 'would you rather' questions for a 7 year old, all themed around Rainforests and the animals and environments there. I was really impressed at how fun and interesting the questions were and printed them off, then cut them up into thin strips with my craft guillotine.
I folded each question up along with a little animal figurine and put it in each egg and then hid the eggs in our garden. The whole thing took me about 30 minutes and only cost the price of some printed paper (once I had already bought the eggs) because I used animals we already had, so it was very budget friendly too. My children seemed to love the treasure hunt and I look forward to using the fillable eggs again next year!
I hope this give you some simple ideas for what you could fill similar Easter Eggs with. I have also created a free printable download of a set of questions for children (general themes, these ones are not Rainforest specific) for you to download, print and enjoy sharing with your children. Aside from Easter, these can make great conversation starters or screen-free activities, to practice their reading and also enjoy talking about each question with the family. We have put these similar questions (cut up and folded strips) in a pouch or basket before and everyone can take turns taking one out and answering it.
